Enjoy Multitasking With Apple’s IOS 9

-

With iOS 9, Apple has finally introduced the much-awaited multitasking feature (Split View). The Split View feature is currently available on the iPad Pro, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4 and will allow you to work on two apps simultaneously. The three different multitasking features across the different iPad models are Split View, Slide Over and Picture in Picture.

Slide Over

You can activate the Slide Over feature inside an app by swiping from right to left side to create a side pane that will make space for a second app alongside the first app. The Slide Over feature occupies about 1/3 of the display. You can even switch in between applications by swiping downwards on the Slide Over window from the top of the iPad screen.

However, Slide Over cannot be defined as a true multitasking experience since both the apps cannot remain active at the same time. This feature can be used through landscape or portrait mode and is useful for searching something in Safari or for replying to quick messages while working with another app.

Split View

You can activate the Split View option on an iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 4 by pulling the Slide Over window towards the centre of the screen in landscape mode. In Split View mode, you will be able to see two apps side-by-side, with each app occupying half portion of the screen. Split View is more flexible and allows the user to work with both the apps at the same time.

Picture in Picture

The Picture in Picture feature allows users to perform FaceTime video calls or watch videos even when they are using other applications. For example if you are on a FaceTime call or watching a video and tap the Home button, the video will shift to a corner of the display and give you the scope to manage other apps.

The iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4 have been integrated with the superior A8 processors and 2GB, giving them the ability to support all the three features discussed above. Users will also be able to experience multitasking features in the upcoming iPad Pro. While Apple’s built-in apps automatically support these features, third-party developers who are into iPhone Application Development will have to integrate multitasking feature into their apps to allow users experience the same.

iOS 9 is full of enhancements you’ll appreciate every day.
