Terrace Hill is one of the Historic National Landmarks and residence of Iowa Governor. This is the best representative architecture of empire belonging to American Victorian II This luxurious 1869 home was constructed by first millionaire of Iowa named as Benjamin F. Allen. It was renovated in late in the eighteenth century. It is located in an area of 8 acres and has renovated Victorian garden. The house looks across downtown of Des Moines. Tourists can visit this place March through December on Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Des Moines has a Botanical Center, which is basically an indoor garden full of nearly 15 thousand exotic plants. It possesses one of the biggest accumulations of subtropical, tropical and desert-plants in its Midwest. The Botanical Center is full of thousands of flowers that blossom here throughout the year. The outside gardens are very beautiful and copious. There is Blank Park Zoo that is enclosing a 22 acre attractively landscaped zoological park situated on the south. The important exhibits comprise its tropical rain forest, Africa and Australian Outback. There are many facilities like tours, education classes and rentals provided by the Zoo.

The Great Ape Trust was established in Iowa forasscientific research with its campus covering an area of approximately 230 acres accommodating bonobos and orangutans. The research included the nondestructive interdisciplinary study of cognitive and communicator abilities of these species. The trust also conducts very short tours for public by prior reservation on seasonal cornerstones.

East Village is on east of the Moines River. It starts from the river and stretches over five blocks towards east to State Capitol Building. It puts up a sort of electric merger of historical buildings with boutiques, eateries, art galleries and even the extensive assortment of retail business establishments amalgamated with the residential places.

You could never miss Adventure land Park. It is an entertainment park adjacent to Altoona in Des Moines’ north – east. The amusement park features many shows, over 100 rides and other attractions comprising three grand roller coasters. There is a hotel and a campground outside the park. There is another famous place for recreation in Alton- Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino. You can go here for gambling or enjoy and bet on horse racing. You should also visit Living History Farms situated in suburban Urbandale. It recites the tales of Midwestern agricultural life in rural settings in about 500 acres of an open air museum. It depicts the artifacts and reality that include nearly four generations of Henry Wallace and his other members of family. There is also Historic Jordan House placed in the West Des Moines. It is an elegant Victorian Home which was constructed in 1850 and extended in1870 by the first ever white settler James. C. Jordon in the West Des Moines. This house is totally renovated and this residence forms a portion of Underground Railroad that has 16 period rooms, a museum of railroad and community record of West Des Moines, another museum devoted to Underground Railroad of Iowa.

According to Chicago Tribune, Iowa’s capital city is a tourist friendly business district with its streets and outdoor full of sculpture, shiny buildings, shop fronts and enchanting cafes.
